About Jae

Hi!  I’m Jae Taylor!

Although Jae Taylor Designs wasn’t founded until 2008, my design education has been a lifelong process. I grew up in a world of high-end “purist” furniture manufacturers, designers and interior decorators where I developed a very deep appreciation and solid foundation of the industry.

Jae's Background

From an early age, I have been intrigued by color, texture and shapes.  They stimulate my imagination and awaken my senses. Looking through my own personal lens, I see and appreciate the whole world as “ART”.

My mom was an Interior Designer who had her own design studio.  I loved going with her on buying trips whenever she went to the Chicago Merchandise Mart or to New York art shows, because it was always an exciting quest for unique decor. Hand-knotted rugs or the latest up and coming artists and their work inevitably seemed to be at the top of her never-ending shopping list.

Services, Color, Color Consultation,

My dad was a Furniture Manufacturing Representative.  Depending on the decade, it was either Tomlinson, Henredon, or Bernhardt and always included multiple accessory lines. Not only do I remember being involuntarily recruited by him twice-yearly to straighten up the fabric racks in all the retail stores he sold to.  But also, the job consisted of removing discontinued fabrics and replacing them with new samples. It was okay work for a 10-year-old because I usually got lunch out of the deal!  In high school, I started selling in my father’s showroom at the twice annual Furniture Markets in High Point NC.  And went on to study in the family tradition at The University of Mississippi. During college summers, I traveled a multi-state territory, and sold his accessory lines to retail furniture stores and design shops.  So, I guess you could say that this industry runs deep in my veins.

Jae Today

In addition to Interior Design, my experience also spans Furniture Manufacturing, Home Remodeling and Project Management.

As an interior designer, people often ask about my favorite design style. I can only tell them, “It’s not about me. This is about you. So, you tell me; what’s YOUR favorite design style?”  What I love most about my job is letting people know that it’s okay to paint old furniture, or reupholster that favorite chair. I love helping people see the beauty in their own distinctive sense of style and showing them how to translate it into fun and delightful design!

So, as you consider the pictures in my portfolio, you will not find a perfect magazine layout. What you WILL find is the reality of a client’s dream. The furnishings are almost always a mixture of old and new. And this makes each project authentically unique and personal.  MY JOB is to define this for you… and I love my job!

Kindest regards,
